Oh how much fun this is going to be! You are going to be choosing a name for your brand new little puppy! That’s a big responsibility but also a big honor. You need to choose just the right name, not too cute or too frilly or too goofy, plus you want it to ‘fit’ the pet.

There are major pressures to picking a name. Classic names like Fido or Champ are always an option but are not that popular with kids. If you have kids, they’ll probably argue for a more hip name. You can also pick the name of your favorite actor, singer, world leader, or so on and use that as your dog’s name. There’s no limit to what you can choose.

Here are a few tips to help you pick a great name:

Your dog is going to be called by this name for a long while, probably ten to fifteen years. Be sure to pick a name you really like.

A shorter name is usually better. Think one to three syllables. More than this and it becomes really cumbersome to call the dog. There are dogs that have a bunch of names, like first and middle names. You can do this but don’t get overly complex.

Whenever you talk to the puppy, be sure to use his name. When he hears his name, ideally you want him to come running. Because you’ll be saying it a lot, in private and in public, don’t pick a name that you will be embarrassed to say in front of people or that may offend others.

Play with the puppy before you name him. Take your time. If the puppy isn’t named for a few days or even a week, it won’t be the end of the world. If you have some time to play with the puppy before you choose a name, this will help you match the name to the puppy’s personality. That’s better than picking a name too soon and later realizing that it doesn’t fit.

You can get advice from other people too. Family and friends can make suggestions. If you want to really have fun with this, turn it into a game. Host a Name That Puppy party, with a prize for the person who comes up with the name you pick.

The reason it is so very hard to name your new puppy is that there are just so many names out there it is dizzying. That’s opportunity though. Find one that fits the dog, and makes you happy, and go for it.

Dog training experts advice dog owners to employ dog cages as tools in the training of their pets. Although this is seen by a lot of people as cruel, it is actually a helpful accessory in training dogs especially in potty training puppies. Here are some things you should know about dogs and dog cages.

Dogs Are Partial To Dog Cages
Dogs want to be provided with a place to retire after several hours of playing and roaming around. They actually seek an enclosed place where they can be free from harm. You may notice that your pet actually loves to stay under the bed or under the couch. They might enjoy running around and playing outside but they almost always seek the safety of a corner when they want to retire.

Dogs have a way to let you know when they want to get rid of their body wastes. As much as they can, they will not soil their cage, the place where they retire and relax. Potty training your pet using a cage is more effective if he is still a puppy but even adults can be trained using the cage too.

Giving him food and toys inside the cage will also help in making him get used to being kept inside the cage.

Dogs Are Safe Inside The Cage
Dogs like to gnaw and chew on things. You might find a shoe or slipper missing or damaged by your pet. There are even times when they chew on electrical wires which can be catastrophic, they might get hurt or somebody else will. Keeping them in a cage while you are out will help avoid this.

Cages are important in carrying your pet whether to go to the veterinarian or someplace else. It is safer to keep them in the cage while on the road to avoid mishaps from happening. They will get excited by the bustle of traffic and people which can confuse and make them jumpy so if they are out in the open, accidents might happen.

Do Dogs Have To Be Kept In Cages All The Time
While your pet dog needs to stay inside the cage for safety, it is not healthy for him to stay inside for long hours. For one, he needs to exercise too and he also needs to interact with other dogs and socialize with humans. So keep him caged for a maximum of four hours then let him out, after a few hours you can let him inside again.

As you get used to your pet’s behavior pattern, you will know when he wants to go potty and let him out to do his thing.

Bear in mind to never use the cage as a form of punishment for your pet. Cages should be seen as a haven for your pet, a place where he can feel safe and relax.

It may seem very odd when you think that there are so many cross breeds popping up, both intentionally and unintentionally, around the world each day, and there’s nothing really special about a Yorkie Bichon breed cropping up over time. But this fact has a completely different meaning in the eyes of potential dog owners.

If you are planning to get a Yorkie Bichon as a pet but are not really sure whether you really need a dog like this, and more importantly unsure what the puppy would become when it has all grown up, then there’s only one thing to say that you are not the only one having this doubt. It is a well known fact that no one can really predict what a mixed breed dog would grow up to be like and this is surely true for all mixed or cross bred dogs.

To state the obvious, there’s a chance that the dogs could turn out to be predominantly like their Yorkie father/mother, or like their Bichon Frise mother/father. Unlike the Puggle mixed bred dog, for the Yorkie Bichon mix to be considered pure, the parents do not have to be specifically of own breed, i.e. you do not need to have a Bichon Frise mother and a Yorkie father, or vice versa. It can be either mix, as long the parents themselves are pure bred dogs.

This is one of the reasons why it is tricky to breed a mix breed dog. As no one dog breeder has the entire lineage of a dog going back hundreds of years, it can be quite difficult to find out whether or not the ancestors of the parents themselves cross bred at some point in the past. The problem is that in some cases genetic defects may hide themselves for a few generations, and might come back to affect the dog at the point when the dog breeders are about to cross breed the dogs.

The resulting dog may be a hodgepodge of characteristics or can be a sweet and cute dog. However this type of scenario is quite rare in good breeding programs, and in case you with to have a Yorkie Bichon mix as a pet you would surely be able to get a good Yorkie Bichon combination.

What would be the characteristics of this kind of a dog, never mind the features of such a dog? Well, unfortunately there is no way through which you can tell these beforehand, and most of the dog owners would just have to wait and see what their Yorkie Bichon Puppy grows up into; a predominantly Bichon mix or a predominantly Yorkie mix. Whatever be the case, one thing that you can be assured of is that you would be the proud owner of a dog that is very loyal to you and is also very cute and adorable, what else do you want for yourself?
